CONFRATERNITY OF THE MOST HOLY ROSARY

ENROLL TODAY TO BECOME A MEMBER OF THE ROSARY CONFRATERNITY

  • The primary purpose of the Rosary Confraternity is “to praise and honour the Blessed Virgin Mary and to secure her patronage by praying the Rosary for the mutual spiritual benefit of all the members throughout the world.”
  • Blessed Alan de la Roche established the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary in 1470
  • It is one of the oldest associations in the Church, over 500 years old
  • It is a Spiritual association under the Dominicans, due to which all enrolled members share in spiritual benefits of the Dominican order. The Confraternity of the Holy Rosary is a part of the Dominican family.
  • The Confraternity of the Holy Rosary has been heavily endorsed by Popes and Saints
  • Any baptized Catholic who has received First Holy Communion may be registered.
  • Membership is perpetual, i.e., eternal. Membership does not end with death
  • A person who is dead cannot be enrolled.
  • There are No meetings & No membership fees
  • Various Plenary & Partial Indulgences
  • The Confraternity of the Holy Rosary has hundreds of thousands of members
  • Each member, includes in his Rosary all other members of the Confraternity and they include him. In this way when a Confraternity member prays his Rosary, he has hundreds of thousands of members who are offering their Rosaries for him.
  • An enrolled member who has passed away and is in Purgatory, benefits greatly from the thousands of rosaries being prayed for him. This as the membership is perpetual/eternal, so even after death a person remains a member.
  • To share in the spiritual benefits and privileges of the Rosary Confraternity, the names of the members should be inscribed in the Official Dominican Register of a church where the Rosary Confraternity has been canonically established. This enrollment is essential for membership.
  • In Mumbai the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary, has been canonically established at the ‘Church of Our Lady of Egypt’, Kalina.

  • Obligation
    • Only obligation of the enrolled members that does not bind under the pain of sin, is to meaningfully pray the 15 mysteries of the Rosary ONCE a week.
    • The 15 decades or 3 mysteries need not said at one time, but may be divided into decades and recited when convenient, as long as the 15 decades are said during the week.
    • Note: Since the Holy Father has recently added the five luminous mysteries, it would seem that members of the Confraternity should strive to include that extra Mystery (Luminous) in the recitation of Rosary weekly. However, the Dominicans state that they have as yet received no official statement regarding this matter. Those who recite only the fifteen traditional mysteries will continue to share in the benefits of the Confraternity until some official source declares the contrary.

  • Confraternity members should offer their Rosaries for other members of the Confraternity along with their own personal intentions. OR they can make a one time intention to this effect.
  • Membership Privileges
  • The Confraternity offers its members the following immense advantages:
    • The special protection of the Mother of God (Pope Leo XIII in Lætitiæ Sanctæ, 8 September 1893).
    • Participation during life, at the hour of death and after death in all the good works of the members of the Confraternity.
    • A share in the Masses, Divine Offices and good works of the Fathers, Brothers, Contemplative Nuns, Sisters and Laity of the whole Dominican Order. This includes all the good works of all the saints and beati of the Order: martyrs, pastors, doctors and holy men and women over 400 in number, including St. Dominic, St. Albert the Great, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Martin de Porres, the Vietnamese Martyrs, St. Rose of Lima and St. Catherine of Siena. This sharing continues after death.
    • A share in the prayer of countless thousands of members the world over, and this even after death.
  • An immense treasure of indulgences which are applicable to the souls in Purgatory. The Rosary is the "Queen of indulgenced devotions," and the Confraternity is the most indulgenced pious association of the faithful. This is what led St. Alphonsus to say: "After Holy Mass the best means of relieving the souls in Purgatory is to join the Confraternity."
  • The intercession of the entire heavenly court.
  • The Rosary Confraternity has a mission, a special office, ministry or work for the Church. That is why until modern times popes were inclined to talk of Rosarians in almost military terms. They were, the army of prayer, conscripted by St. Dominic, marching under the banner of the Mother of God, united as comrades, the enemies of evil both within and without" (Pope Leo XIII in Lætitiæ Sanctæ and Augustissimæ Virginis Mariæ )
  • St. Alphonsus de Liguori wrote on the usefulness of the Confraternity: "In the many missions I have preached, I have come to the conclusion that there are more sins in one single person who does not belong to the Confraternity of Mary than in twenty that do!"
  • The Curé of Ars said: "If anyone has the happiness of being in the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary, they have, in all corners of the globe, brethren who pray for them." He added: "For a member of the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary to succeed in losing their soul, they would have to do as much violence to themselves as the other faithful do to save their souls, so abundant are the graces of this Confraternity."
  • Rosary Indulgences for Confraternity members
  • For members of the Rosary Confraternity, a plenary indulgence, under the usual conditions, is granted:
    • On the day of enrollment: The date of enrollment is entered along with the person’s name in the Rosary Confraternity Register.
    • On the following feast days: Christmas, Easter, Annunciation, Purification, Assumption, Our Lady of the Rosary, and Immaculate Conception. For those who pray the Rosary, a plenary indulgence is granted under the usual conditions, when the Rosary is prayed in Church, or in a Public Oratory, in a family (family Rosary), Religious Community, or Pious Association. Otherwise, a partial indulgence is granted
  • Pope Leo XIII among other popes, insisted very much on the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary, especially in the encyclicals Lætitiæ Sanctæ of 1893 and Augustissimæ Virginis Mariæ of 1897 in which he wrote, "Whenever a person fulfills his obligation of reciting the Rosary according to the rule of the Confraternity, he includes in his intentions all its members, and they in turn render him the same service many times over.
